The Art Show/Room consists of an art auction display (on 4x4' pegboard wall panels for hanging flat art & on tables for 3D works) and (10) "Artists' Alley" tables for the sale of art or art commissions.

Art Auction Display:
There is no fee to place art in the art auction display, but registration is required for space allocation purposes (up to 2 4x4 pegboard panels or half tables for 3D) and 10% of any sales price (whether by quick sale, single bid, or at auction) will be taken from the purchase price as a sales commission by Trinoc*coN. Let us not forget NC sales Tax. Business transactions will be done at the end of the art show by the staff, and it is only at this time when any art, sold or unsold may be removed, during the post-auction period.

All flat art must be matted, framed or otherwise mounted. Framed works must have a wire or other means of hanging (The art show provides hooks and bulldog clips). Every piece of art must be labeled with its title, price, and the Artist's name.

Not For Sale Art:
Some displayed art may be listed by the artist as NFS Not for Sale but we do ask that at least 75% of the art be for sale.

Artist Alley Tables:
Similar to the tables in the Dealers Room, these are for rent, available on a 1st come first served basis. Given that the number of artists interested in renting these tables is greater than the number of available tables, initially only 1/2 tables can be rented. Should any halves remain later these could be made available to those who might like a full table. Half Table fee is $25. Trinoc Con does not deduct any % of sales made at these tables. Note that the Artist Alley tables in the Art Room are not to be confused with the tables for rent in the Dealers Room... or the similar Art Show tables for display of 3-D works.

Art exploring adult themes:
Art intended for mature audiences might be on display, and not segregated into its own area, so parents should exercise their own discretion as to whether children may enter the art room. Tasteful 'R Rated equivalent' nudity & violence in images is permitted but no pornographic/ X or NC17 Rated equivalent' images will be permitted.

Trinoc*coN reserves the right to reject artwork which, in the judgement of the Trinoc*coN Board of Directors, is inappropriate for display or sale at Trinoc*coN.

In the event that there is more art to be displayed than there is vailable panel space (or table space, for 3D artwork), preference will be given to art from the Art Guest of Honor, then to invited Artist Guests, and finally to Trinoc*coN members placing art up for auction. Additionally, art that is available for purchase is given preference over "NFS" (Not For Sale) pieces.

How the Art Auction works:
(Note that the Sunday Art Auction is not the same as the Saturday Charity Auction).

Art to Auction Rules:
On Friday and Saturday, items which have a "Quick Sale" price on the bid may be purchased for that price, if no other bid had previously been placed.

"Quick Sale" is unavailable on Sunday; any item which receives a bid on Sunday will go to auction.

Artists will fill out a control sheet listing all of their displayed works in the art show, along with small bid cards to attach to each item. The control sheet will be given to the art room staff and reviewed with the artist to make sure all is ready for display/auction. Information on the bid cards will include the artist's name, title of the work, medium, whether or not the copyright is available, and whether the piece is for sale or not (NFS). If it is for sale, the seller will indicate the minimum bid and/or a quick sale price.

If someone wishes to bid on the piece, they must write their bid and con badge # on the card. Bids must be in whole dollar increments. If only one person bids on it then it will go to that buyer. If a 2nd person bids on it, then at the end of the art show it will go to that higher bidder. If there are 3 bids then the item goes to the Sunday art auction starting with that highest bid. Should no one else bid higher then it would go to that 3rd/ highest bidder. If someone writes their con badge # by the Quick Sale price, then it is considered 'sold' and no one else may bid on it. Bids may not be retracted.

On Saturday night, a yellow bar will be placed on the first (if empty) or second bid line. All items which have a bid in the yellow bid line will go to Auction. In the event that an item is bid upon at the "Minimum Bid" price or higher on Friday or Saturday, and receives no additional bids, it will be deemed to have been won by the original bidder

All purchases or unsold art from the art show may only be claimed/ removed by the seller or buyer during the post-auction sale period on Sunday afternoon so pelase remember this when making your travel plans. This includes Quick Sale art.

Paying for purchased art:
All must be paid for following the auction. After the auction, buyers can purchase their winnings by bringing their claim slip(s) to the art room. Buyers will present their art and winning bid sheet to the art staff at the art room registration & info desk, with payment including NC Sales Tax. Trinoc*coN is not responsible for any artwork or items left behind at the hotel after the con has ended.

Copyright notice to buyers:
The artist retains the copyright to their work. When a buyer purchases a piece, the "personal" or "fair" use of the art is the right to own, display, resell, or even destroy the piece, but not the copyright to it. This means that the new owner may not copy/reproduce it in whole or in part, by any means/process (hand tracing/copying, photocopying, scanning, photographing, etc), be it for profit or nonprofit intent. Whether the intended copies would be either sold or given away for free is irrelevant, in any quantity whatsoever (not even one), nor create works which are derivative of the original (even if for satirical purposes)... unless you have verifiable, written permission from the artist.

Aside from the art show, with the art auction as a Sunday Afternoon main event there'll be the art show judging, the Art GOH's presentation, and various other art discussion panels & workshops as usual.

Mail-in art:
We will be allowing some mail-in art for our show; All mail-in artists must be pre-approved, and supply a $15 mail-in fee and return postage. We will start accepting pre-approved mail-in art on June 18th 2008, and we will stop accepting mail-in art by July 18th 2008.

Our friends at Foundations Edge Bookstore have agreed to once again be the destination for any pre-approved mail-in art, and any such packages should be sent to:

In the event that there is more art to be displayed than there is available panel space (or table space, for 3D artwork), preference will be given to art from the Art Guest of Honor, then to invited attending Artist Guests, and finally to Trinoc*coN members placing their own art up for auction. Additionally, art that is for sale is given preference over Not For Sale pieces.
